Resolution of Peripheral Neuropathy Associated with Acute COVID-19 Infection Following Benfotiamine and Methylcobalamin Supplementation: A Case Report

Abstract
This report describes a case of peripheral neuropathy developing in the setting of an acute COVID-19 infection in a 51-year-old female with multiple significant comorbidities, including mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD), hypertension, and chronic kidney disease (CKD). The patient experienced debilitating neuropathic pain syndrome with pain scores of 10/10, refractory to gabapentin and opioid-acetaminophen combination therapy. Following the introduction of benfotiamine and methylcobalamin supplementation (NeuRemedy ® Plus), the patient achieved complete resolution of neuropathic symptoms within three weeks. This case highlights the potential of benfotiamine and methylcobalamin as adjunctive therapeutic agents in severely painful peripheral neuropathy associated with an acute COVID-19 infection and suggests the need for further investigation.
