About Orazio
Orazio Antonio Barra is a professor of physics at the University of Calabria, where his work has included fundamental interactions, energetics, environmental engineering, and energy systems. He is also rector emeritus of the International Polytechnic Scientia et Ars. He earned a physics degree from the University of Rome in 1972, with a thesis in high-energy elementary-particle physics, and later held teaching and research roles in solar energy, renewable-energy engineering, fluid dynamics, and environmental planning. His interests now extend to medical physics, cardiology, arrhythmology, heart-rate variability, and physiological complexity. He has collaborated on studies using machine learning and entropy measures to investigate cardiac pathologies. His July 2026 article reviews Shannon entropy as an indicator of autonomic and cardiovascular instability.
