About Prema
Prema Ramachandran is director of the Nutrition Foundation of India in New Delhi, a position she has held since 2004. She earned an MD in obstetrics and gynecology from Madras University in 1971 and became a Fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences in 1985. Earlier, she spent 24 years at the Indian Council of Medical Research working on contraception, maternal and child undernutrition, nutrition and health interactions, service delivery, and HIV infection. She later served as Adviser for Health, Nutrition and Family Welfare in India's Planning Commission from 1995 to 2003. Her work centers on public-health nutrition, maternal and child health, and nutrition policy, with continuing attention to undernutrition, overnutrition, and their wider health effects.
