Osteoarthritis is one of the most common joint diseases and can affect any joint. The temporomandibular joint is a highly complex synovial joint in charge of orofacial movements. Osteoarthritis of the temporomandibular joint causes great dysfunction and orofacial pain, affecting the quality of life of people and causing a cascade of events that lead to the development of orofacial musculoskeletal pain. This type of pain has been considered the second most prevalent chronic pain, and given its location is an important phenomenon to consider.
