About Thomas

Thomas J. FitzGerald, MD, is professor and chair of radiation oncology at UMass Chan Medical School and holder of the UMass Memorial Chair in Radiation Oncology. He is a principal investigator within the Imaging and Radiation Oncology Core supporting National Cancer Institute clinical trials. His work centers on quality assurance for imaging and radiation therapy, including pre-treatment review of clinical trial materials and the curation of imaging data for research. FitzGerald also studies radiation biology, therapeutic resistance, normal-tissue injury, hematopoietic stem-cell biology, and cellular adhesion mechanisms. His academic roles span radiation oncology, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, cancer biology, and multidisciplinary clinical-translational research.
