Tom Koch, PhD

Tom Koch is an adjunct professor of geography at the University of British Columbia, medical geographer, bioethicist, writer, and researcher. His interdisciplinary work connects geography, ethics, medicine, gerontology, and public health. He is widely known for research on disease mapping and the spatial understanding of epidemic and endemic illness, including the books Disease Maps and Cartographies of Disease. His work also addresses disability, aging, chronic illness, access to care, and moral stress in healthcare. Through research and public writing, he examines how place, evidence, and social conditions shape health and health policy.
