About Kathleen
Kathleen M. Sakamoto, MD, PhD, is the Shelagh Galligan Professor of Pediatrics at Stanford University School of Medicine and a specialist in pediatric hematology and oncology. Her research examines signaling pathways and gene regulation in normal and abnormal blood formation, with particular emphasis on acute myeloid leukemia and bone marrow failure syndromes. She develops targeted approaches intended to make childhood cancer treatment more effective and less toxic. Her career also includes leadership in fellowship training, research mentorship, national scientific review, and the translation of laboratory discoveries into therapies for children with leukemia.
