Abstract

Introduction: Psoriasis is a chronic immune-mediated inflammatory skin disease associated with oxidative stress, systemic inflammation, and gut microbiota dysregulation. Nutritional interventions targeting multiple pathogenic pathways have gained increasing attention as adjunctive therapeutic strategies. Methods: This comparative six-month study included 72 patients with psoriasis divided into two groups. Group 1 (n=34) received Noni extract (3 mL/day), a polyphenol-rich Alaska blueberry and 21-fruit/vegetable concentrate (30 mL/day), and omega-3 fatty acids derived from salmon (3 capsules/day). Group 2 (n=38) received the same regimen with additional hydrolyzed collagen containing type I and III bovine collagen (30 mL/day) and a pro-/prebiotic formulation containing digestive enzymes and nine herbal components (2 capsules/day). Clinical, biochemical, and radiological parameters were evaluated over six months. Results: Both groups showed improvement in disease-related outcomes after six months. However, the group receiving the five-component supplementation demonstrated significantly greater improvements in clinical severity, biochemical inflammatory markers, and radiological parameters compared with the three-component group. Conclusion: A multimodal nutritional approach combining antioxidant, omega-3, collagen, and gut microbiota-modulating supplements may provide superior clinical benefits in patients with psoriasis compared with antioxidant and omega-3 supplementation alone. Larger randomized controlled trials are needed to confirm these findings.
