Ritchie Shoemaker

Ritchie C. Shoemaker, MD, is a retired family physician and medical director whose work focuses on biotoxin-associated illness and chronic inflammatory response syndrome. He earned undergraduate and medical degrees from Duke University and completed family medicine residency training before establishing a rural practice in Pocomoke, Maryland. His research developed from investigations of illness associated with the 1996 Pfiesteria outbreak in the Pocomoke River and later expanded to inflammatory conditions linked with environmental exposures. Shoemaker has served as medical director of ProgeneDX, Surviving Mold, and the Center for Research on Biotoxin Associated Illnesses. His publications address clinical biomarkers, transcriptomic patterns, treatment response, and inflammatory mechanisms in complex chronic illness.
