Hemophilia, Hemorrhagic diseases and Scuba diving

Abstract
The existence of congenital hemophilia often leads to contraindication to some sports. Little is known about the risk of scuba diving in patients with hemophilia. In 2012, we published an article showing that this activity was possible with some restriction. In the present paper, we report our experience of a 6 year follow-up in hemophilic patients performing scuba diving. With a total of 1986 dives including first 225 dives performed in patients with hemophilia or Willebrand disease without any bleeding event linked directly to the dive, we can confirm our previous findings: hemophilia or Willebrand disease are not contraindications to diving provided the patients respect all the other constraints and recommendations related to safety in scuba diving.
