Out of Hospital Treatment for Seizure Emergencies

Abstract
This article reviews the out of hospital treatment options for seizure emergencies. This article includes recently approved out of hospital options, therapies currently being studied and evidence to support use of current routes administration. Prehospital treatment of seizure emergencies helps to prevent consequences of these seizures. This article also addresses the current gaps in treatment and the areas where further research is needed. Early and adequate treatment of acute seizure clusters is necessary to prevent consequences. Since most seizure clusters occur outside of the hospital, creating a seizure action plan is important. Educating patient and families regarding treatment options is necessary for all patients with epilepsy.
