About Jo-Ann

Jo-Ann Stanton, PhD, is a molecular scientist whose work develops portable diagnostic and genomic technologies for use outside conventional laboratories. She has held research roles at the University of Otago and Victoria University of Wellington and has worked on point-of-care systems, environmental DNA, and field sequencing. Her projects have taken molecular diagnostics into remote agricultural and community settings, including work supporting rapid identification of crop pathogens in East Africa. In women’s health, she has contributed to point-of-care HPV screening initiatives intended to improve access for rural and underserved communities in Aotearoa New Zealand.
