About Merilyn
Merilyn Hibma is a Professor in the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand. Her research examines the relationship between viral activity, immune regulation, and skin disease, with particular attention to human papillomavirus (HPV) and its role in cancer. Following earlier research at the University of Cambridge and a return to Otago through an HRC Repatriation Fellowship, she has focused on understanding how HPV influences immune responses and on developing improved immunotherapeutic approaches for people with existing infections. Her recent collaborative work includes research on HPV self-testing, cervical screening access, and point-of-care testing in rural Aotearoa New Zealand.
