Debra Lee Kaysen

Debra Kaysen, PhD, is a professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Stanford University whose research focuses on trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder, substance use, and the dissemination of evidence-based psychological treatments. Her work examines how traumatic experiences affect mental health across diverse populations and how interventions can be adapted for real-world settings. She has contributed to research on childbirth-related trauma and postpartum symptoms, as well as studies involving survivors of interpersonal violence and communities with limited access to care. Her program combines clinical science, implementation research, mentorship, and efforts to improve scalable trauma treatment.
