About Brendan
Brendan Carvalho, MBBCh, FRCA, is a professor of anesthesiology, perioperative and pain medicine at Stanford University and a specialist in obstetric anesthesia. His research focuses on improving analgesia, safety, and recovery for people undergoing childbirth and cesarean delivery. He has studied neuraxial anesthesia, postoperative pain, opioid-sparing strategies, maternal satisfaction, and methods for measuring recovery after delivery. His academic work combines clinical trials, outcomes research, and education, with the goal of making obstetric anesthesia more effective and patient-centered. He has also contributed extensively to training and international scholarship in maternal perioperative care.
